Guguță cafe, named after a beloved Moldovan children's book character, was built in the late 1970s by architects Serghei Lebedev and Nicon Zaporojan in Chișinău's central park. The cafe's innovative design imitated a spaceship, with distinct themed storeys and unique table areas. Adorned with murals by artist Igor Vieru, it became a popular venue for families and young people in Soviet Chișinău. The cafe's closure in 2007 and subsequent demolition sparked the OccupyGuguță civic movement, demanding its restoration and return to public ownership. The trial against the private company Regatta Imobiliare, which plans to build an office block in its place, is ongoing.
