Du Sizhong was a military official born in Duling, China, and was sent to Korea (Joseon) as a part of Chinese reinforcement to Korea (Joseon) during Japan's invasions of Korea in 1592 and 1597. After the war in 1597, Du Sizhong became a naturalized Korean. Du Sizhong was a master of geomancy (also known as the 'Feng Shui') and built his house on land assumed as (the land of thousands of coins), but later he was relocated to Gyesan-dong as the Gyeongsang Supervision Office moved in. Du Sizhong planted lots of Mulberries around Gyesan-dong, which later earned the name Mulberry alley. His story has been passed down for generations along with the tales of his romance with a Korean lady.
