The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord, known as the Zagreb Orthodox Cathedral, is a Serbian Orthodox cathedral situated in Zagreb, Croatia. Designed by architect Franjo Klein, it was built in 1865–66 on the site of a wooden Catholic church dedicated to St. Marguerite. The initiative for its construction arose in 1861, replacing the old church, and it was completed on October 21, 1866. During World War II, the cathedral faced turmoil as the collaborationist Croatian Ustaše regime seized all property belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Church. It was designated as the central church of the Croatian Orthodox Church, amidst the broader Genocide of Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia. Architecturally, the cathedral features a notable iconostasis, initially installed in 1795 and later replaced in 1884. Comprising 34 icons and 4 free-standing walnut pillars, it is a significant element of the cathedral's interior. Notably, Metropolitan Jovan Pavlović, who led from 1982 to 2014, was laid to rest within the cathedral following his passing in 2014.
