The ethnographic museum is located within the walls of Krujë Castle. It was a traditional house turned museum and was built in 1764 by Kaplan Pasha Toptani. The museum is rated one of the greatest cultural monuments in the Balkans with 100% of its original functionality preserved and original artifacts of daily life ranging from 60 to 500 years old. It has an oriental architecture with stone walls with a width of 60-80cm. Found within are Islamic and Baroque paintings which adorn its main rooms. In this house many of the elements of traditional life are displayed. You can see the clothing, objects, and customs of the time period as you explore the various rooms. You may also notice that all of the doors are low which forced the inhabitants to bow in humility upon entering as a form of respect.

This museum is established in the house of the Toptani family, a typical 'garret' building built in 1764. The interior, as well as the objects displayed on the exterior, give a full view of the Albanian crafts, and particularly, the ones applied in Kruja, as well as the lifestyle starting from 300 years ago. 90 percent of the objects exhibited in the museum are original and functional. It is a well thought out exhibition of ceramic, wood, stone, iron, cotton, silk, woolen objects, and various embroideries. The lifespan of these objects varies from 60-70 to 500 years. The Ethnographic Museum of Krujë was inaugurated on November 20th 1989.
