The Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik was established in 1945 and was originally located in the Cerva-Pozza Palace in the Pile area. However, it has been housed in the Banac mansion since 1948, which was designed by Croatian architects Lavoslav Horvat and Harold Bilinić to resemble Gothic and Renaissance architecture found in Dubrovnik. The Banac mansion is now a listed property. The museum was allowed to use additional and associated premises in 2005 and acquired the use of the Pulitika Studio in 2008. The Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik has a valuable collection of 3,000 artworks, which include modern and contemporary art. The collection of modern art covers the period from the end of the 19th century to the end of World War II, with a focus on artists related to the Dubrovnik region. The collection of contemporary art includes sculpture, painting, prints, photographs, video works, and artistic installations.
