Park Bulgaria is among the oldest park areas in Opatija, laid out in the historical style at the end of the 19th century. The present day 2,674 meters squared park is only part of a former spacious complex that surrounded the neighbouring villa called Bulgaria. The villa got this name because one of its owners in the past was a member of the Bulgarian nobility. After the connection with the villa was lost (the building later got its own garden), the original design concept and stylistic characteristics of the park vanished, which is why its present day appearance has no pronounced stylistic features. Among the 16 recorded plant species, the most notable are the two large coastal redwood trees. Its other plants can also be found in the different parks of Opatija - cypress, cedar, southern magnolia, bamboo, Japanese pittosporum and cherry laurel.
