Civil Engineer
Szilárd Zielinski (born on May 1, 1860, in Mátészalka; passed away on April 24, 1924, in Budapest) was a distinguished civil engineer and university educator, renowned as a trailblazer in Hungary's reinforced concrete construction domain. Upon learning of French engineer François Hennebique's patent for reinforced concrete methods, Zielinski spearheaded the adoption of these techniques in his nation, marking him as the pioneer in this field. Initially, he collaborated with French designs and labor, later transitioning to his own innovative designs alongside a team from Szeged. Beyond his engineering contributions, Zielinski ardently advocated for the creation of a Chamber of Engineers for numerous years. Although he proposed this initiative in 1900, its realization didn't come to fruition until 1923, when both the Chamber of Engineers and subsequently the Budapest Chamber of Engineers were established. He held the inaugural presidency of the latter from its inception on March 8 until his passing on April 24.
