Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu, born on 21 May 1955, holds positions as a Russian statesman and military figure, currently serving as Russia's Minister of Defence since 2012. He also chairs the Council of Ministers of Defense of the Commonwealth of Independent States since 2012. Before becoming Minister of Defence, Shoigu held the position of Minister of Emergency Situations from 1991 to 2012. In 2012, he briefly assumed the role of the governor of Moscow Oblast. An individual with close ties to Vladimir Putin, Shoigu is an esteemed member of Putin's inner circle known as the siloviki.
