Businessman
Robert Gerald Mondavi (June 18, 1913 – May 16, 2008) was a prominent American winemaker. His innovative techniques in both winemaking and marketing significantly elevated the reputation of Napa Valley wines globally. Early on, Mondavi advocated for labeling wines by varietal characteristics, a pioneering approach that became the norm for New World wines. In honor of his contributions, the Robert Mondavi Institute (RMI) for Wine and Food Science was inaugurated at the University of California, Davis in October 2008.
