Businessman Criminal
Wan Kuok-koi (born 1955), commonly known as Broken Tooth Koi, is a businessman and former leader of the Macau branch of the 14K triad. After serving over 14 years in prison, he was released in December 2012. Since his release, Wan has been linked to illegal gambling operations in Myanmar, involvement in illicit drug production, and connections with transnational organized crime groups in the Golden Triangle region of Southeast Asia. In December 2020, the U.S. sanctioned him under the Global Magnitsky Act. Wan's early years were marked by hardship, growing up in the slums of Macau and struggling to survive on the streets. He began his rise within the 14K triad under the mentorship of gangster Ng Wai. As Wan advanced in the organization, Wai tasked him with eliminating his boss, Mo-Ding Ping. This assignment led to a year-long turf war, ultimately forcing Ping to flee Macau to avoid facing murder charges.
