Sculptor
György Zala (1858-1937) was a prominent Hungarian sculptor known for his neo-baroque memorials and public statues. He trained in Vienna and Munich, producing acclaimed works like "Mary and Magdalene" and "The Martyrs of Arad." Notable creations include the "Soldier" memorial, the equestrian statue of Gyula Andrássy, and the "Queen Elizabeth" statue. Zala's legacy encompasses various portraits and sculptures. Upon his death, he received a state funeral and was buried in Kerepesi Cemetery. The Hungarian National Gallery holds around 30 of his works, and a commemorative plaque marks his former villa in Budapest.
