Military Officer
Colonel Assimi Goïta (born c. 1983) is a Malian military officer who has served as the interim President of Mali since May 28, 2021. He initially rose to prominence as the leader of the National Committee for the Salvation of the People, the military group that overthrew former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta during the 2020 Malian coup d'état. Goïta subsequently took control from Bah Ndaw in a second coup in 2021, after which he was declared the interim president of Mali.
