Abdelmadjid Tebboune, born in 1945, is an Algerian politician who assumed office as President of Algeria in December 2019. He succeeded Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Abdelkader Bensalah, previously serving as Prime Minister in 2017 and holding various ministerial positions. Tebboune was elected president after the 2019 Algerian presidential election, taking 58% of the vote. Despite a turnout of less than 40%, he assumed office and received honors from the acting President Bensalah.
