In 1976, after conducting archaeological excavations, the Historical Monument was established at the location of the Battle of Mohács, which took place on August 29, 1526. The park area now serves as the burial site for 1,700 soldiers. The Battle of Mohács took place on August 29, 1526, resulting in a significant defeat for the Hungarian armies against the Turkish forces. The battle had a devastating impact on medieval Hungary, leading to the loss of the king and the fragmentation of the country. In 1976, a memorial site was established at the battle location, including mass graves and a reception building. The memorial features symbolic elements such as a Gothic arch representing the country's rupture, a bronze artwork depicting the Christian victims of the battle, and a sunken atrium evoking memories of destroyed monasteries. The memorial park, with its 14,000 yew trees and hazel grove, surrounds the cemetery, which contains wooden grave markers, sculptures, and symbolic pathways. The exhibition space in the reception building showcases archaeological findings and historical sources, providing visitors with a tangible understanding of the Battle of Mohács. The memorial underwent renovations in 2011 to preserve its significance and historical value.

Sátorhely village is situated in Baranya county's Mohács district, specifically in the southeastern part of the county, within the central region of the Mohács plains. The village is characterized by a flat terrain, located on the second terrace of the Danube. It shares borders with neighboring settlements such as Kölked to the east, Udvar to the south, Majs to the southwest, and Nagynyárád to the west. The original settlement, believed to be located south of Sátorhely along the Borza stream, served as the predecessor of the current village. It is mentioned in the papal annata list from 1333-1334, referred to as Földvár at that time. The village remained relatively peaceful until the arrival of the Turkish era. The significant Battle of Mohács occurred in this region on August 29, 1526. The settlement endured substantial damage during the Turkish wars. After the recapture of Buda in 1686, marking the end of Turkish occupation, the farming population that had gone missing was replaced through resettlement. In recognition of his efforts in liberating the country, Prince Eugene of Savoy was granted the Belly manor, which included Sátorhely, through a deed of donation dated January 30, 1699. The manor was still known as Baranyavári at that time. However, with the prince passing away without an heir, the estate returned to the crown and came under its administration once again.
