On November 28, 2012, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Albania, a monument honoring the anniversary was unveiled in Rinia Park. The work of art consists of two steel elements clad in bronze panels that form a tall parallelepipedenclose but is divided in the diagonal. One element consists of two walls and the ceiling and carries the text of the Declaration of Independence inside, which is supposed to symbolize the oppression of the Albanian people. The second element also consists of two walls and a base plate. Inside, the double-headed eagle of Albania is engraved, and the base plate is said to represent the "foundation of freedom". The division of the entire work of art in the diagonal is intended to symbolize the completed liberation of the country from years of isolation. The memorial was made in Austria and is the work of two Munich-based artists: Kosovar Visar Obrija and German Kai Roman Kikla. The production costs amounted to 400,000 euros.
