The Addison Sod House, the last remaining sod house on the Prairies, is located near Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Built between 1909 and 1911 by James Addison, a carpenter from Liverpool, England, the house is now owned by Lenore McTaggart's family. They will be honored with a heritage award from the lieutenant governor later this month for their long stewardship of the home.McTaggart, who regularly offers tours of the house, mentioned that it has been extensively renovated with modern amenities like running water and electricity. However, it lacks central heating, relying on a single propane stove. The family is seeking local support to maintain the property, now a national historic site, and is looking for the town to take over its preservation. A group called Friends of the Addison Sod Home is being formed to address any structural concerns with the help of a heritage conservation engineer.
