After being destroyed 31 years ago, the Arnaudija Mosque in Banja Luka, Bosnia, has reopened. Built in 1595, it fell victim to Serbian forces during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War. This restoration marks the completion of the reconstruction efforts for all 16 mosques destroyed in the city.

Turkey has recently converted the ancient Chora church in Istanbul into a mosque, following a similar conversion of the Hagia Sophia in 2020. President Erdogan, known for his support of devout Muslims and Islamist roots, has championed these changes, despite criticism from church leaders and Western nations who fear deepening religious divides. Originally built in the 4th century and later converted into a mosque by the Ottomans, the Chora church became a museum in 1945 before Erdogan's recent decision. While the outer halls remain accessible as a museum, the main prayer area now conforms to Islamic tradition with covered mosaics. This decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some lamenting the loss of access to the mosaics and frescoes, while others support the right of Turkish Muslims to use the Chora as a mosque. Critics argue that the Chora's historical and cultural significance would have been better preserved as a museum, allowing broader access to its unique artifacts for researchers. The conversion of both Hagia Sophia and Chora into mosques is seen by some as politically motivated, rather than driven by practical need.
