The clock tower near the Hysen Pasha Mosque (today known as the Clock Mosque in Murat Çelebi Quarter) was documented as a monument of culture under the title of 'The Ruins of the Clock Tower'. Its structure was damaged by an earthquake on April 3rd 1969. Following this severe destruction, the old clock tower was not restored. The regime of the time took the shortest route, by bringing it entirely to the ground, even because the damaged construction posed risks to the inhabitants of the quarter. In 2017, the tower near the Hysen Pasha Mosque was rebuilt based on old photographs. The new construction has slightly larger volumes than the original and it is some meters away from the place where the original tower used to stand. This construction brings back to the collective memory this architectonic object with a public function, and it also complements the urban landscape with its high silhouette. It is also a reference point for the inhabitants of the city of Berat.
