Bethune (2016 population: 399) is a village in Saskatchewan, located 56 kilometers northwest of Regina along Highway 11 (Louis Riel Trail). The village is situated near Arm River, which offers camping, and is close to the Qu'Appelle River. Last Mountain Lake is northeast, while Buffalo Pound Lake is southwest.Established on June 5, 1905, the post office of Bethune, Assiniboia, NWT was set up three months before Saskatchewan became a province. The village was incorporated on August 2, 1912, and named after C.B. Bethune, the engineer of the first train on the railway in 1887.According to the 2021 Census, Bethune had a population of 560 in 180 of its 189 private dwellings, a 40.4% increase from 2016. The land area is 2.38 km² (0.92 sq mi), with a density of 235.3/km² (609.4/sq mi). In 2016, the population was 399, showing a slight decrease from 2011.Bethune features a skating rink, curling rink, park, school, and baseball diamonds at McLean Park. It also has a playground splash pad and is home to the Bethune Bulldogs of the senior men's Highway Hockey League. The Gillis Blakley Bethune and District Heritage Museum is a Municipal Heritage Property. Nearby attractions include Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, Grandview Beach, Kedleston Beach, and Regina Beach Recreation Site.
