King Mosque is located in the main street within the castle walls, a street that starts at the southern gate towards north to the Orthodox cathedral. This mosque was built around 1492, at the time of Sultan Bayezid II. Before it was damaged in the 70s, the mosque was composed of the three most common elements: the prayer room, the minaret and the vestibule. The latter was a wooden construction, most definitely a product of an early restoration. The prayer room and the minaret are the oldest parts of this building, constructed according to the XV century tradition. The prayer room is the only part of the building still standing after 1979. The room is lit by 14 windows placed in two rows in all three walls and only one in the lower part of the northern wall.
