Hwanhaejangseong, Great Encircling Wall, stretches across the entire coast of Jeju Island, reaching a total length of about 120km. The wall was built in 1270, the 11th year of King Wonjong in the Goryeo Dynasty, from entering Jeju Island. Even after Jeju was occupied by Sambyeolcho, the military unit continued to use the wall for self-defense. After Sambyeolcho was destroyed, it was continuously maintained until the end of Joseon dynasty in preparation for the invasion of Japan.
